What is soil???????????

WHAT IS SOIL

Soil is the layer of the earth situated on the upper portion. This is where nature grow. Plants inhabit the soil. Other terms for soil are: clay, humus, dust, loam and earth. Soil is composed of different mixtures of clay, rocks and other other organic remains.

TYPES OF SOIL

Soil is classified in to different types.

  • Clay - is a kind of soil that is thick and very fine to hold. It is a usually used to make garden pots.

         Mimis Dad uses clay soil to make garden pots for sale.

  • Sandy - is the opposite of clay. It is coarse in texture and is usually found in the beach. Sandy soil are usually grey and white in color.

         Dylan loves to play with and make sand castles most of the time.

  • Silty- is a combination of clay and sand. This kind of soil is usually found in the river.

        The carabao has silty soil on its body after it sank in the shallow river

         the whole afternoon.

  • Peaty- This kind of soil is the result of some decomposed organics that were stacked for thousands of years. This is good for farming.

        The farmers of Hacienda del Marisol use peaty soil to plant carrots.

  • Chalky- This kind of soil is called the alkaline soil. It is solid by nature made of soft rocks that break easily. It usually dries easily.

        The chalky soil is not good for my garden.

  • Loamy- It is a kind of soil combined by clay, sand and silt. This kind of soil is the best for crops and other plants.

      My brother brought loam soil and refilled the garden pots in preparation for his planting of flowers.
